    New Phone - SE K660i

Finally , after about 6 month looking for decent phone, now I am a proud owner of Sony Ericsson K660i.
Cheap 3G/HSDPA phone, nice design and most important, fit on my tight budget :).

Went to Maxis Center at Kotaraya yesterday and subscribe to Unlimited Data Package (RM99) + New Plan 50.

Now at the office and trying to connect to 3G using this phone as modem. Run wvdial

    sicksand@sicksand-laptop:~$ sudo wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf
    Editing `/etc/wvdial.conf’.

    ubuntu hh 8.04

about a week now i am using ubuntu hh 8.04 via wubi. altho is a vm, it doesnt feel like a vm. so far the performance is okay, I never look back to my windows partitions. almost 90% of my work on my windows, can be done here in ubuntu. the only setback is , I try to configure to vpn my project site, using l2tp over ipsec. still searching for the best programs out there. all in all is good. by the way, I am using tumblweed (adobe air client) to write this post.

INPROCOMM IPN 2220 Wireless LAN Adapter problem in Ubuntu

Now, I am using Ubuntu without looking back to my WinXp. The installation went fine via wubi. Now I am in dual boot environment. All screen, audio, touchpad is ok, but the wireless is not visible in my network manager.

I start by checking the restricted driver and no proprietory driver is detected. strange. After googling for few hours, I found solutions, by using ndiswrapper. My wireless chipset is INPROCOMM IPN 2220 Wireless LAN Adapter, download it via here .

    Install ndiswrapper and ndiswrapper utils

    sudo apt-get install ndiswrapper-common

    sudo apt-get install ndiswrapper-utils-1.9

extract the driver and issue this command

    sudo ndiswrapper -i /home/sicksand/Desktop/driver/Winxp/neti2220.inf

check if the driver is installed

    ndiswrapper -l

    neti2220 : driver installed

    device 17FE:2220 present

now, load the module and check for error

    sudo depmod -a

    sudo modprobe ndiswrapper

now you can see network manager and wireless shoud be visible by now. now to load it at startup

    sudo ndiswrapper -m

edit file /etc/modules and add “ndiswrapper” (without the quote) and the eof, save it and you’re done.

    VirtualBox Ubuntu Screen Problem

VirtualBox is one of the rising product that gain much popularity in community. The size is much smaller than VMWare and it is easy to setup. I get my hand on VirtualBox and install Ubuntu 7.10 as guest OS.

All went fine, no hiccups and smooth. My max screen size is 1024x768, but after I install Ubuntu 7.10 on VirtualBox, the screen size max is only 800x600. Went to the forum and found this solutions.

    At the terminal type this

    sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

Select Vboxvideo and select your desire resolution. and restarting X by pressing

    Ctrl + Alt + Backspace

Now, you have the desired resolutions working. But you will notice that your mouse now invisible. No problem. Head to your xorg.conf , change the mouse section to vboxmouse, and restart your X.

Hope that helps for newbie like me that want to explore the world of free and open source, without the hassle of dual boot.
