Why I like whoisi

Whoisi is one of the many social networks site that aggregates all the social network services. What makes it differents from other sites like friendfeed, ping.fm are :

1. No login required

Yup, thats rite, no login required. It depends on your cookie browser, once you followed a person, it will automatically stores in you cookie. Further that, if you want to follow on a different browser, Login Later will provide you with a permalink, so no need for you to subscribe again to a person

2. Plain UI

The plain ui is awesome, you know what, no need for ui for mobile or whatsoever. one link that ruled them all.

3. Man powered

No robots and spiders crawling for find a person, If you have someone to follow, but it still not in whoisi, you can easily add the person. How cool is that?

4. Built on PHP/MySQL

The best part, is whoisi built on php and mysql.

Yesterday, some of blog post at Planet Maemo have a posting about the ‘twitter’ in town -> Identi.ca. caught my attentions. Basically, all of us (some..) getting frustated that twitter is keep getting down. Today, the Fail Whale is on the front page of twitter. Now I know, why I am not getting any updates from my phone.

Sony PSP Custom Firmware 4.01M33, 4.01M33-2

As promised by Dark Alex and the M33 team, the newest custom firmware will be released this week and as promised, it has hits the interwebs right now. I am currently downloading the file and will try to update my psp as soon as possible.

Here are the readme file for CFW 4.01M33

4.01 M33

Instructions: Copy UPDATE folder /PSP/GAME/ and run.
Put the 4.01 sony update as 401.PBP in same folder, or let the program download it for you using a wifi connection.

Changes:
- Bug fix: vshmenu didn’t let change camera mode due to camera_plugin using select button.
Fixed, now vsh menu will not be loaded when using the camera.

- Recovery can now be translated, See how below. Translation to spanish is autoincluded.
- Updated the M33 SDK with a new function and sample, and released the psp-packer tool to
compress prx’s and PBP’s in the ~PSP format.

- The folder of 4.01 and highre homebrew will be GAME4XX so it won’t need change on update.

Taanslating the recovery.
To translate the recovery create a text file in ms0:/seplugins/xx_recovery.txt
or flash1:/xx_recoery.txt (they are evaluated in that order), where xx is the language code
of your language:

es -> spanish
en -> english
fr -> french
de -> german
it -> italian
ja -> japanese
ko -> korean
nl -> netherlands
pt -> portuguese
ru -> russian
ch1 -> chinese simplified
ch2 -> chinese traditional

The file en_recovery.txt in translate folder is included for people to translate to their languages, this file is not needed for english people, as the english language is used when no language file is found.
Just change the english strings to your language ones, and put it in the path mentioned above. Be careful to check in the recovery that the lines look fine, don’t use too large text.

The spanish file es_recovery.txt will be written by the program in the memory stick.

1.50 kernel addon for fat will be released this evening or this night

Got this news via playstation tweet. Maybe a minor changes focused only bugs. Got another thing todo fisrt but here is the quote from the official blog

Hey everyone, here’s a quick heads up that a new PSP system software update, v4.01, will be released soon. This minor update includes the following:

Display of search results under Internet Search has been improved for certain languages.

Playback of video content under Video has been improved for certain file types.

After you download and install the firmware on your PSP, click on the XMB’s Network icon and then the new Internet Search icon. Enter your keywords and then let Google’s algorithms do the work. You’ll need to be connected to the Internet via a wireless access point or Wi-Fi hotspot. Googling something on the go has never been more convenient on your PSP.

Another new feature delivered through the 4.00 update is the ability to change viewing speed during playback of videos stored on your Memory Stick PRO Duo, so you can speed through or slow down what you’re watching. Please convince me to get an iphone!:

I really want to get an Iphone. Serious. It’s cool, sleek, provides the web at my fingertips, and is the ultimate all-in-one device.

I’ve been reading all these articles recently praising the new 3g iphone. But I keep looking in vain for the things that really matter to me. Maybe I’m too simple minded, but what I really care about is:

1. Does email and calendaring work seamlessly?

2. Can I type quickly and accurately?

3. Can I live with just one device in my pocket?

From what I can tell, the new iphone, with all the new functionality and speed still does not deliver on these. I don’t think text input has been improved significantly. Every time I play with an iphone in an Apple store, I keep hoping that a light turn on in my brain and I’ll figure out how to use the keyboard properly. But those dreams are always crushed and I walk away a little more depressed than when I came in.

I think Apple may be able to make email and calendaring work seamlessly. But I think the proof is in the pudding. Given my skepticism about text input, email and scheduling needs to be really really good for me to consider a purchase. And unless email, calendaring, and text input work, I don’t see how I can possibly give up my Blackberry.

Iphone fans… what’s the answer? Do I need to invest more time into learning the nuances of the iphone’s functionality? Will the new iphone solve all my problems? Are all the other benefits so overwhelming that they make my top 3 priorities less important? Or do I just have to give up my dream of a single device for business and personal use?

PSP Custom Firmware 3.95 GEN-2

Almost a week ago, psp custom firmware 3.95 GEN have been released to public. Now the second released named GEN-2 have circulating the net today. The release mainly focused to fix the bugs on their first released.

some notable changes are :

Fixed issue which crashed the PSP if you had vshmenu mode ‘None’.

Fixed SNES emulator issues, now works fine.

Fixed few homebrew issues with the Slim.

Last version of the SNES emulator, PSPTube and many other homebrew using ME now work fine.

Here are the installation instruction

Connect your PSP to your computer via USB.

Extract the file you downloaded by right clicking and choosing the option ‘Extract Files To…’.

Extract the files to your PSP’s assigned letter (for example, X).

Leave USB Mode.

Goto GAME > Memory Stick > 3.95 GEN

Google has announced 50 winners for Android Developer Challenge. One of the apps that caught my eye, is called Android Scan . Here are the details from the website.

Scan is an Android application that finds pricing and metadata for anything with a barcode. Here are some key features that make Scan stand out:

Automatic barcode recognition using onboard phone camera using ZXing library

Shows CD, DVD, or book cover along with detailed reviews from Amazon.com

Searches over a dozen stores, both online and brick+mortar

Highlights brick+mortar stores that are nearby, with option to call the store or get directions

Links to online storefronts to buy online from the phone

Tracklisting for CDs, along with option to play sample tracks right on phone

For books, searches local libraries to see if they have a copy

Simply, you use your camera phone (in this demo, use ip camera), and take a picture of the barcode, then it will search all available information and display the data for it. If its acd , even can play snippets track for it. Cool…

PSP CFW 3.95 GEN Officially Released

The community of psp homebrew firmware is breath again. Now team PSP GEN has released new custom firmware base on official firmware 3.95. This is a good news from the community.

I , myself did download the cfw from psp-gen but, did not do the upgrade,wait for few days/weeks before it become stable.

Here are the exceprt from readme file.

3.95 GEN FIRMWARE BY MIRIAM

~ Installation of this custom firmware is at your own risk, it has been tested and verified to be safe, but nobody is to blame if something goes wrong.

Requirements:
- PSP Slim/Classic with 3.71 M33 or higher

Instructions:
- Copy the PSP folder to the root of the memory stick.
- Download the offical 3.95 update and copy it to the root of the memory stick with the name ‘395.PBP’.
- Run it and follow the onscreen instructions, the Sony updater will be used for the main flashing.
- At the end it’ll ask you to press X to reboot, do so or you’ll get a brick.

Changes:
- Kernel updated to 3.95 (new nids, patches etc.).
- Option added in recovery to choose between VSHMenu and in-XMB recovery.
- Option added in recovery to choose between Sony, GEN and M33 network update modes.

Extra information:
- Pressing L-Trigger + Triangle whilst you start the GEN installer, will later disable Sony’s 50% battery check.
- All reported bugs for the Phat (including pops) have now been fixed. Pops was indeed a memory issue, and not a problem with the patches, as some stated.

Popsloader:
- Added support to run in the 3.95 kernel, copy seplugins to the root of your memorystick, add to ‘pops.txt’ and enable in recovery.

No more CFW from M33 team

Yes, you heard it right. No more custom firmware from your favorite hacker Dark-Alex M33. the last custom firmware from m33 is 3.90-M33 . From the website of Dark-Alex, future custom firmware will 4.00. Yes you need to downgrade to 3.90-M33 using Despertar del Cementerio (google it). If I have time to spare, I will post guide on how to downgrade it.

Last two ofw (3.93 and 3.95) won’t be modified to M33 versions. End of discussion. If you updated to that version, you CAN downgrade to M33 3.90 version using last version of Despertar del Cementerio, you can find a tutorial on this same site or the PSPWiki. If you don’t know either how to do and keep insulting, i’d personally look for who is under that ip. Further comments asking or insulting for no making more M33 versions, will be (as now) ipbanned on all the hosts, this means, you won’t be able to resolve dax.org, for example.
